Waking up to a Lauren Bacall-less world today really was like a kick to the chest. For a very long time I have been aware of the fact that I would actually be alive when this day would eventually come, which has been frightening as hell, but at the same time I feel extremely privileged to have been alive in her time. She is, and always will be, my favorite actress of all time. Like no one else, she was able to play strong female characters who, even despite the Production Code and her slim figure, managed to be wildly sexy in a time where being curvy and voluptuous was in. Lauren is a legend, and I will be forever grateful for her work, that I truly believe paved the way for so many actresses, but most of all, I’m deeply saddened by the loss of not only a great actress, but a spectacular woman.
Rest in peace, Betty Joan Perske, may you teach Bogie to whistle in heaven too.
